Winter at Red Lion Row

Returning from a nice break, visiting with family and the holidays and ready for classes to resume. Its always nice to start a new year with a fresh start. This semester we will have Turfgrass Management, Plant Propagation, Conservatory Plant ID, Landscape Construction, and Arboriculture and Pruning. I am looking forward to each and every one of these classes and especially Landscape Construction where we will be beginning the construction of our very new and exciting gardens in the gardens proper. We have split up into groups which each have one of four quadrants in the former Example Garden. I am working with Deb Wiles and we are very anxious to take what we have on paper and bring it to life. It is also a busy time now as we prepare for the PGAA Symposium Plant Sale which will be held on the Patio of Oranges during the Symposium. We have been hard at work collecting donations and plants from folks around the area. I think it is going to be a great sale and a great semester.

As we’re wrapping up the fall season and preparing to take a much needed break from work, school, and night classes we had a massive snow storm. I can’t complain, I love snow; the way it lays on the trees, the brightness that greets you when you walk out on a sunny day, and the way it absolutely transforms the outdoors into a magical place-day and night. I don’t think anyone expected it to be quite as much, but as I said it was absolutely beautiful. Walking through the gardens in knee high snow was a memorable experience.
